February's Battle of the Beauty Subscriptions- Ipsy vs Sample Society

It's the month of love, and I am really loving my beauty subs this month!  Ipsy's, "The Look of Love" bag and Sample Society's February box were full of great goodies!  Check it out….
Let's start out with Sample Society.  It's a $15 monthly beauty box subscription that includes five high end, sample sized beauty products in each monthly box.  It's brought to you by Allure magazine and  I've found that my boxes are usually skin care items, with makeup here and there, and the occasional candle, or hair product or accessory.  Here's February's box:

Alterna/Bamboo- 48hr Sustainable Volume Spray
I've been pretty pleased with this volume spray.  It works pretty well to give a boost to my fine  hair that's always in desperate need of volume.  Anything that will help, I am all for it :)

Ahava- Deadsea Water Mineral Body Lotion
This smells amazing and earthy!  It's nicely moisturizing to my dry winter hands and helped with my cracking knuckles.  It's perfect this time of year and fits nicely in my purse to take with me.  It's also natural and free of parabens which is a plus.

Murad- Advanced Active Radiance Serum
I am going to be honest, I am not going to use this and will probably trade it.  The few Murad products I've tried lately seem to irritate my skin or make my eyes burn.  I also have way too many skin serums at this time.

Ahava- Osmoter Concentrate
The gilded, sparkling like box drew me in and I've been using this for the last five days. So far, I love it!  Like most Ahava products it smells so good!  Reminds me of the Aveda smells, natural and earthy, as I mentioned about the lotion above.  I apply it at night before I moisturize and my skin's been so soft and not as dry as it had been.

Phyto- Phytokeratine Mask
It uses botanical keratin to go deep into the hair fiber for strengthening and hydrating.  I am not sure that I used this correctly because I couldn't really find directions, other than leave on for 5-10 minutes.  So, I assumed, apply it to clean wet hair and leave on for the suggested time.  I think that maybe i used too much of it on my hair because my hair felt waxy, or greasy after rinsing and drying.  It was more difficult to comb through the wet hair than it normally is.  Other than the waxy feeling, my hair has felt somewhat fuller.  I'll try it again with less product but I am not crazy about it.

Overall, I liked three of the five products. You just can't go wrong with Ahava for skin care, and Alterna for hair,  they're pretty wonderful natural product lines!

Now onto Ipsy, it's a $10 monthly beauty subscription bag.  You get 4-5 full and deluxe sample sized beauty products and a cosmetic bag.  Ipsy has been mainly makeup, with the occasional skin or hair product.  I have loved my Ipsy bags since I joined over  year ago!  Check out Februaury's, "The Look of Love" glam bag:

Zoya- Nail Polish
I received Odette, a pretty lilac color that's perfect for Spring.  This polish pretty much paid for the bag as it's full size and retails for $9.  Zoya polishes are natural, opaque and long wearing, so this polish made me a happy camper!

NuMe- Intense Renewal Mask
I haven't tried this yet, I just used the Pyto hair mask from the Sample Society box, but it seems to be getting good reviews on the Ipsy site.

POP Beauty- Plump Pout Mini
I was super surprised with how much I like this gloss because I've not tried this brand before.  I received the color Peony Petal and it's a really pretty pink.  I didn't really find it to be plumping in any way, but It was nicely opaque and had decent staying power, and it's not sticky like some glosses.  Only downside is that it smells funny, like plastic or something, but the smells fades after a few seconds so it's no biggie.

City Color- Be Matte Blush
I've not tried, nor heard of City Color before this Ipsy bag, and it's another item I am surprisingly really impressed with!  I received the Fresh Melon shade, so pretty!  It's weI was inll pigmented and lasted most of the day before fading.  I'll be looking for the other shades on the trading sites!

Tini Beauty- Eyetini Cordial Cream Shadow + Base in One
I received the shade Spiced Rum, a shimmery bronze color.  when applied with the doe foot applicator it goes on very opaque and is quite pretty, but when you blend with your finger it wipes most of he color off, so avoid doing that.  It's long wear and hasn't crease on me yet, so it's pretty decent.  Downside, another weird smelling product!  It has a strong chemical scent. Makes you wonder…

Here is the blush, gloss, and eyeshadow in action :)
Overall, another Ipsy winner!  I was very impressed and happy with 4 or the 5 products I received, and have yet to try the hair mask so this out weighs the three likes from Sample Society.

I've found an wonderful site for trading unwanted beauty samples for ones you want to try from other boxes you don't get, allowing you the best of all the boxes. I'll be creating a post about it soon to share my trades, so stay tuned!
