November's Battle of the Beauty Subs- Ipsy & Sample Society

vs
This month I am doing my beauty subscription post a little differently.  As you may already know, I am subscribed to both Ipsy and Sample Society. Each has a monthly selection of 4-5 sample or full size beauty products sent to your doorstep.  Ipsy is $10 monthly, while Sample Society is $15.  Usually, I am pretty pleased with both, and do separate posts on each, time permitting.

This month, I'll do a little comparison on which beauty sub really wow'ed me more than the other.  Here's this month's goodies….

Murad- Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture
Hopefully this will be nice for winter dry skin!  I am starting to accumulate one too many moisturizer samples and it's getting a bit much for me so I may be
giving this one to a sis or friend.
Jane Iredale- Lip Drink Lip Balm
This has SPF 15 which is nice but it sure is tiny!  I guess that makes it good for on the go because it'll fit just about anywhere-pocket, purse, etc.  I put it in my smock at work.

I do like how it feels on my lips and it does a good job of hydrating. No color, it is clear.

Borghese- Splendore Brightening Makeup
This says it's suitable for all skin tones.  I mixed a little with my foundation and it did give a pretty, subtle brightness.  I can see using this for highlighting and getting that glow to skin.

Annick Goutal- Eau d'Hadrien Eau de Toilette
Blend of Sicilian lemon with ylang-ylang.
It's hard to describe the scent. It's a bit summery to me, but I quite like it.

Illume- Balsam & Cedar Metallic Tin Candle
Super excited, it smells like a fresh Christmas tree!  We used to get a fresh tree every year until one completely shed 80% of it's needles all over the living room(NOT FUN!).  We decided that was the last time for a while and got a fake tree.
This will provide that real tree scent that I miss :)

Overall, not bad.  I just wish there were a blush or liner sample every now and then.  I am getting overwhelmed with my moisturizer samples, lol. I'll revisit my survey to see if I can change up my monthly selection.

Now, on to….

Be a Bombshell- Lip crayon in Hot Damn
At first glance I thought it wasn't going to work on me because it looked like an orange red, but it's actually very nice and not orange at all.  It can go on sheer with a light application or bold with full application. It's creamy and has a teeny bit of classy sparkle.
Nailtini- Nail Polish in Champagne
This is a pretty shade that is almost a rose gold.
I really like Nailtini polishes, and this is no exception.
EM- Pillow Plush Lip Balm in Strawberry
The packaging is a really cute little jar.  The color is a pretty strawberry red and pairs nicely with the Be a Bombshell lip crayon above. It's an interesting formula that like the name suggests is pillowy, and almost gel like.  I like it a lot!
Starlooks-  Gem pencil in Amethyst
Oh, this one's so pretty!! It's a really blinged out light purple liner that doesn't drag at all.  Can't wait to wear this for the holidays! I do have to mention that I hate that all the Starlooks products I've gotten the cap never stays on. It's so loose it just fall right off and the product ends up getting all over purse, etc. Boo!
Cailyn- Mineral Eyeshadow in Champagne
This has a built in sponge tip applicator making it easy to use an less likely to spill all over the place.  It's a shimmery, light, golden mineral shadow. Again, another pretty item.
Pixi- Beauty Bronzer in Summertime
Haven't experimented with this yet but it look alike it's be great for contouring.
I'll update on  how it was.

Overall, this bag was great! It contained an extra item, so I got 6 total. I think they were all full size too?  It was a good mix of face, eye, lip, nails,- just perfect.  I like that both lip products were coordinating colors so I can pair them. So happy to play with all of these!!

So the winner? Who rocked my mailbox this month?…..

Ipsy's Glam It Up bag wins!
  • Better value- It was $10 compared to Sample Society $15
  • I got 6 deluxe & full size products compared to Sample Society's 5 mini's
  • Coordinating colors like the reds and champagnes
  • A great mix of eye, lip, cheek, nails

  4. I read another review of the same Ipsy bag and had already been blown away at the value for $10. This comparison just makes me want an Ipsy subscription even more! I like this comparison idea instead of 2 separate reviews. You should keep doing it!
